The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced new funding from the £381 million Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund to support drivers without off-street parking. The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) estimates that while 40% of drivers lack a driveway, this figure rises to 70% for commercial vehicle drivers.
The funding includes £5.6 million for Lincolnshire, £6.6 million for Derbyshire, £5.5 million for Nottinghamshire, and £4.5 million for Staffordshire. Future of roads minister Lilian Greenwood highlighted the importance of seamless charging, particularly for those without driveways, as the Midlands prepares to install over 16,000 new charge points.
DfT confirmed that the full LEVI fund has now been allocated, with local authorities moving forward with tenders and installations. London boroughs received £35.7 million in 2023, while £185 million was approved for 44 councils last year.
Zapmap reports over 75,000 public charge points now in operation, while a Vauxhall study found 90% of van fleets rely on residential charging.
