The AA is introducing 30 plug-in vehicles to its low-carbon roadside service fleet, including 15 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 15 plug-in hybrid Ford Transit Customs (PHEVs).
This marks the AA’s first major trial of plug-in roadside assistance vans, operating in cities like Birmingham, Glasgow and London. The BEVs, with a range of up to 236 miles (120 miles when towing), and PHEVs will undergo practical tests, including efficiency under load, and charging convenience while on call.
Each patrol in the trial will have home chargers supported by Rightcharge. The AA’s Fleet Engineering team worked with FordPro and Bristor to create vehicles meeting operational needs. By 2025, over 50 low-emission vehicles will join the AA’s fleet trials.
