EDF offers £200 cashback for installing Pod Point home chargers

EDF is offering £200 cashback to new and existing customers who sign up to its Pod Point 'Plug and Power' tariff before 26 December. EDF claims this deal is worth over a year of free driving, equating to over 8000 free-energy miles.

The Pod Point 'Plug and Power' bundle combines an electric vehicle (EV) home charger with a tailored energy tariff. It lowers upfront costs for those switching to electric vehicles by allowing customers to purchase a Pod Point Solo 3S charger for £499 (RRP £1099). The remaining cost is spread over two years and incorporated into the tariff. To qualify, customers need a smart meter and must agree to half-hourly meter readings. Once the charger is purchased and an installation date booked, EDF applies the £200 credit to the customer’s account within 30 days.
Rich Hughes, EDF’s director of retail, highlighted the benefits of the deal, stating it offers lower upfront costs and puts £200 back into drivers' pockets. Hughes expressed EDF’s commitment to making electric driving more affordable, thereby encouraging customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Recent research by Allstar shows that the average cost of home EV charging has dropped to 24p per kWh, the lowest since 2021.

Meanwhile, Zapmap data indicates that public charging costs in October 2024 averaged 56p per kWh for slow or fast chargers and 80p per kWh for rapid or ultra-rapid chargers. Drivers with off-road parking can pay as little as 7.5p per kWh when charging at home, also avoiding the 20% VAT applied to public chargers.
