New Merc with 500-mile range (well, nearly)

Mercedes has unveiled the new CLA, including an electric version capable of up to 492 miles on a single charge. The four-door coupe retains its sleek design but is now longer for improved passenger space. Luggage capacity is slightly reduced, but electric models gain a front storage compartment.

Inside, the CLA features a widescreen dashboard with minimal physical buttons, relying on an upgraded touchscreen interface with AI and Google services. The model launches in October, starting at around £40,000, with electric versions arriving first, followed by hybrids and an estate version in 2026.

The CLA 250+ features a single rear motor producing 272PS, achieving 0-62mph in under seven seconds. The dual-motor CLA 350 boosts power to 353PS, with front-wheel decoupling for efficiency. Both use an 85kWh battery, with a smaller 58kWh variant to follow.

With an 800V system, the CLA supports 320kW DC fast charging, adding up to 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
