CarGurus has analysed average prices of used electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) models, revealing a 10% price difference in favour of EVs. On average, used ICE models cost £2,560 more than their electric equivalents from the same manufacturer.
The study focused on listings from the UK’s top 30 manufacturers, identifying Skoda, Mazda, VW, Jaguar, and Renault as the brands with the widest selection of comparable EV and ICE models. The greatest price gap was found in the 2021 Mazda MX-30, which was 28% cheaper than the ICE-powered CX-30, averaging £12,180 compared to £16,960.
Other notable savings included the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, priced 22% lower than the equivalent F-Pace (£25,629 vs. £33,012), and the 2022 Skoda Enyaq, which was 19% cheaper than the Skoda Kodiaq (£23,056 vs. £28,307).
Three- to four-year-old EVs offer the best savings over their petrol or diesel equivalents.
