Toyota unveils new Urban Cruiser EV

Toyota has unveiled its all-new battery-electric compact SUV, the Urban Cruiser, offering 49kWh and 61kWh battery options.

The new SUV marks a significant step in Toyota’s multi-path strategy, which aims to provide a range of electrified options across Europe. By 2026, Toyota plans to offer 15 zero-emission vehicles, including six dedicated battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This strategy supports Toyota Motor Europe’s ambition for full carbon neutrality by 2040.

The 49kWh battery, available exclusively with front-wheel drive (FWD), delivers 106kW (142bhp), while the 61kWh option produces 128kW (172bhp) in FWD form. The all-wheel drive (AWD) version with the 61kWh battery achieves 135kW (181bhp). Both configurations use lithium-iron phosphate batteries and feature an energy-efficient heat pump and battery pre-heating for optimal performance in colder conditions.
Built on Toyota’s dedicated BEV platform, the Urban Cruiser combines strength, lightweight construction and spaciousness. The design eliminates floor crossmembers, providing more room for the battery and a generous cabin layout. A sliding rear seat system enhances flexibility, with 40:20:40 split-folding seats and a reclining function.

The AWD version adds a rear 48kW motor for stable performance on slippery surfaces, downhill assist control and Trail Mode, which redirects torque to improve grip. The FWD model benefits from a 'Snow Mode' for improved traction. Alloy wheels come in 18 or 19-inch sizes.
Inside, a long wheelbase ensures comfort comparable to larger SUVs. Features include a 10.25-inch digital display, 10.1-inch multimedia screen with cloud-based navigation, smartphone integration and safety systems like adaptive cruise control, lane assist and a 360-degree camera system.
Charging solutions include the Toyota HomeCharge wallbox and MyToyota app for monitoring charge status, locating stations and scheduling sessions. Additional options include a JBL premium audio system, powered driver’s seat and a fixed sunroof.
